PREFER TO TRAVEL ON YOUR OWN FAMILY ITINERARY?
Depart on an overnight flight to Sydney.
Cross the International Dateline and temporarily “lose” a day, to be recovered on your return trip.
Your room is available for immediate occupancy, with time to relax after your flight. Later, set off on a private afternoon cruise on Sydney Harbour, before joining fellow travellers at tonight’s welcome dinner at nearby Circular Quay.
Four Seasons Hotel Sydney: D
Visit Taronga Park Zoo this morning to see unique Australian animals, followed by a fish-and-chips lunch on the beach. This afternoon, learn to ride the waves at famous Bondi Beach (surf gear provided) and meet a real Aussie lifesaver. Your evening is free; if you like, attend a performance at the Sydney Opera House (an optional activity, subject to ticket availability).

Fly to Adelaide, “the city of churches and festivals,” for a tram ride from the beachside suburb of Glenelg to Adelaide’s city center.
Hyatt Regency: B
An early-morning flight takes you to Kangaroo Island, isolated from the mainland for 20,000 years. Tour the island by 4WD vehicle; walk among the seals; lunch with kangaroos; and watch koala, wallaby and emu in the wild. Late this afternoon return to Adelaide by air.
Hyatt Regency: B L
This morning we fly to Ayers Rock in Australia's Outback, with an afternoon drive to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) to walk through the valleys between these huge formations: a haunting experience in a spiritual setting. This evening there's the option of dinner in the desert.
Sails in the Desert: B
Day 8: Uluru / Alice Springs
An early start as we drive out to watch the sunrise wash over Ayers Rock, and walk around the base to see hallowed sites and paintings illustrating ancient Aboriginal myths. Late this morning, fly to Alice Springs to visit a unique institution: the School of the Air, whose radio instruction brought home schooling to the far-flung homesteads of the Outback. This afternoon experience the thrill of quad-biking on bush trails past rugged mountain ranges and through dry riverbeds before tonight’s authentic Aussie bush barbecue and boomerang-throwing lesson.
Alice Springs Resort: B D
Fly to Brisbane for a private afternoon tour of Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo. See koalas, emus and kangaroos — and watch from afar as the saltwater crocodiles slither. Dine tonight at the restaurant of your choice.
Conrad Treasury Hotel: B D
Fly to Hamilton Island, connecting by high-speed launch through the Whitsunday Islands to luxurious Hayman Island.
Hayman Island: B
The Great Barrier Reef stretches for 1,200 miles off Australia’s northern coast, and you spend the day on the water, exploring this world-renowned coral landscape. Hayman Island: B, L, D
We return by launch to Hamilton Island to board our flight to Sydney. This evening we gather for a farewell dinner at one of Sydney's best waterfront restaurants.
