Common Myths
About Travel 'Down Under'

Lizard Island

Many of the things you may already know about the land "Down Under" are completely correct. The Aussies & Kiwis (Australians & New Zealanders) are friendly, the lifestyle is relaxed and informal, the sun shines, the beaches are golden and the Australian continent is vast and largely uninhabited.

Unfortunately, there exist many misconceptions about Australia & New Zealand. Please allow us to dispell some travel "myths".

"Australia is the Place for Winter Sunshine"

True. However, Australia is equally attractive in the summer In fact, the long American summer school break is a perfect time to visit the Outback and swim off the Great Barrier Reef. You should consider visiting Australia and New Zealand together in the spring and fall. Visit Australia during the American summer and New Zealand in the American winter.

"It takes 3 days to get there"

Although the itineraries state that you arrive in Australia or New Zealand on "Day 3," this is a misnomer. In fact, you arrive in less than a day - usually on an overnight flight. However, because you also cross the International Dateline, in the flick of a moment, you "lose" a day, which we refer to as "Day 2" on your itinerary. On your return journey east, you miraculously arrive in the U.S. a few hours before you left the South Pacific. This is because you regain that lost day when you re-cross the International Dateline.

"The Journey Across the Pacific is Too Long"

We prefer to call it a relaxing journey - with time to contemplate the exciting adventure to come. When compared to other popular A&K destinations, a trip "Down Under" is no less lengthy than, say, a trip to Africa, The Orient, or even Europe (from the Western U.S.). Think of it this way: A flight from Los Angeles to Europe is 12 hours. A flight from Los Angeles to New Zealand is also 12 hours. It's all perception - and misconceptions.

"It Won't Stay a Secret for Long"

The Sydney Olympics showcased Australia to the World The America's Cup brought New Zealand design and ingenuity to everyone's attention. The quality of the experience, the integrity of the country, and the economy of travel Down Under with one U.S. Dollar at almost two to one is rapidly placing this clean, green, safe and friendly part of the world on the top of everyone's "must travel" list.
