Anjodi

Canal du Midi & Provence

Graceful 'Anjodi' invites you on a voyage of discovery in a blissful region of southern France. She glides along the Canal du Midi with its many picturesque locks - or, as an end-of-season alternative, through Provence and the mysterious Camargue along the Mediterranean coast.

Day by Day Itinerary

Sunday:
Meet at the Holiday Inn Montpellier - Metropole in Montpellier and transfer to 'Anjodi,' moored in Marseillan, for a champagne welcome.

Monday:
Cruise from Marseillan to Portiragnes to visit the old Greco-Phoenician port of Agde. Explore the narrow, medieval streets carved from the Languedocian hills' black volcanic stone. After lunch, enjoy a wine tasting at Château de Perdiguier, a 14th-century castle that is home to the Feracci family.

Tuesday:
Visit Pézenas, a delightful town rich with artisans, and which has also attracted actors, singers and performing artists. Its most notable resident is the playwright Molière, who wrote and performed here in the 17th century. Then cruise to Béziers with overnight mooring at the foot of the Fonserannes Lock Staircase.

Wednesday:
'Anjodi' ascends the seven locks at Fonserannes this morning, continuing to the world's oldest canal tunnel at Malpas. On arrival at the picturesque village of Poilhes, take an excursion to Minerve, the ancient capital of Minervois, where there are spectacular views from the 12th-century Cathar fort.

Thursday:
Visit Narbonne today to see the fortress-like Archbishop's Palace and explore the delightful indoor market. Later, cruise along the winding canal to the rural village of Argeliers with a wine tasting of the full-bodied Corbières at the 500-year-old canalside vineyard at Domaine de Guery.

Friday:
Today, visit the fascinating walled city of Carcassonne, the most complete medieval fortified city still in existence. The old town, called 'La Cité,' looks much as it did in the Middle Ages and is surrounded by a double circuit of walls and towers. There is time to explore the winding, cobblestoned streets and experience the charm of this extraordinary place. In the late afternoon, cruise to the overnight mooring at the village of Le Somail for a special farewell dinner.

Saturday:
After breakfast, transfer back to the Holiday Inn Montpellier - Metropole in Montpellier, where your tour ends.

NOTE: This is a sample itinerary and is subject to change. On alternate weeks, the cruise is run in reverse direction.
