Libellule

Southern Burgundy

Libellule Barge

Hotel barge ‘Libellule’ moves into southern Burgundy in 2009 with a delightful journey from St-Jean-de-Losne along the River Saône and Canal du Centre to St-Léger-sur-Dheune — with wine-producing villages and charming waterside towns all along the way.

Day by Day Itinerary

Libellule Living Room Saturday:
Meet fellow travellers in Dijon and transfer to 'Libellule,' moored in St-Jean-de-Losne. After a welcome apéritif, there is time to stroll in town before dinner on board.

Sunday:
After breakfast, drive across the plains of the River Saône, passing the ancient Abbey of Citeaux. In Dijon, enjoy a guided walking tour that includes the Ducal Palace and medieval district with free time for shopping or individual explorations. Return to 'Libellule' in time for lunch and the afternoon cruise to Seurre.

Monday:
Cruise to Chalon-sur-Saône today, mooring close to St. Vincent Cathedral and the old quarter with its half-timbered houses and charming pedestrian streets. The afternoon's excursion includes a beautiful drive past the wine slopes of the Côte de Beaune. In the town of Beaune, visit Hôtel Dieu, the famous 15th-century charity hospital. Returning to Chalon, there is time to visit the town before dinner.

Tuesday:
This morning's cruise is to the delightful riverside town of Tournus. A walk in the town center includes St. Philibert Abbey, a superb 11th-century collegiate church and a landmark of Romanesque architecture. After lunch, visit Brancion to enjoy the town's breathtaking views of the Burgundian countryside. Rejoin 'Libellule' in the late afternoon at the small riverside village of Gigny.

Libellule going thru a lock Wednesday:
Entering the Canal du Centre today, 'Libellule' cruises along the winding waterway where excellent opportunities for walking or cycling await. In the afternoon, visit the village of Rully to tour the 12th-century Château and winery.

Thursday:
Cruise this morning to Santenay for a tasting of the delightful local wine. In the afternoon, visit the medieval Château de la Rochepot, a splendid castle-fortress with a beautiful setting. Then, cruise to your final overnight mooring at St-Léger-sur-Dheune for a special farewell dinner.

Friday:
After breakfast, return to Dijon where your tour ends.

Note: This route is run in reverse on alternate weeks.
