To explore Umbria on foot is to travel with Backroads through a landscape living blissfully in the past. Though less visited than neighboring Tuscany, Umbria is no less rich in cultural and artistic tradition. The Romans, Etruscans and St. Francis of Assisi found a haven here, and with its breathtaking scenic beauty, it’s no wonder. Part of Umbria’s timeless appeal is its terrain - rocky peaks, emerald hills, verdant valleys, rolling vineyards and silvery olive orchards. And its gastronomy - tartufi (truffles), cinghiale (wild boar), strangozzi (Umbrian flat pasta) and Sagrantino wine. Is there a better time than the present to savor the past?
