Few places arouse the spirit of adventure more than Africa, and there is no better way to appreciate the continent's majesty than on safari. We'll travel by private plane from Nairobi deep into Kenya's Masai Mara, an immense 590 square miles of rolling plains and wooded hills.
Here you will have the opportunity to observe the magnificent game of the African wild in their natural habitat, spotting herds of elephants and prides of lions.
The secluded Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp, surrounded by woodlands, is exclusively reserved for Around the World guests.
From the colorful excitement of India, our Concorde takes us across the Indian Ocean to Africa, touching down in Nairobi, capital of Kenya. We transfer to small aircraft and, almost magically, find ourselves in the solitude of the vast Masai Mara National Reserve, a pristine wilderness renowned for its abundant wildlife and natural beauty.
As if reenacting a scene from Out of Africa, we enjoy a very civilized safari life-style at the exclusively reserved Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp. Private tents are equipped with electricity, verandas and private bathroom facilities with hot and cold running water.
Enjoy a welcome drink and learn about the Masai people and their culture at a briefing before tonights dinner of fine wine and regional cuisine, served under stars.
A highlight of our visit to Africa is certain to be this morning's spectacular hot-air balloon safari, a marvelous way to see the expanse of the Masai Mara. Drifting silently above the trees, carried only by the breezes off the Mara River, we eavesdrop on the animals in the grasslands as they awaken to a new day. Upon landing, chilled champagne and a sumptuous breakfast are served in the fresh morning air before continuing with a game drive.
Upon our return to camp and, just before lunch, Richard or Phillip Leakey, a member of the famous Leakey family, talks with our group in an informal discussion that wil enhance our understanding and appreciation of this region and its complex culture.
In the afternoon we go on safari, venturing off the marked tracks in open, four-wheel-drive Land Cruisers in search of lions, elephants and other magnificent residents of the Mara.
The game drive ends at the Oloololo escarpment, where scenes from Out of Africa were filmed, and enjoy Sundowner cocktails with a stunning views of the Masai Mara. A local Masai group enhances the occasion with a performance of traditional dances.
We've planned a restful but equally enriching day with time this morning to relax at camp, take in a lovely scenery, or swim in the inviting pool. After lunch we can glimpse the daily life of the tribesmen native to this part of Kenya during our exclusive visit to a manyatta, or Masai ville..
The day comes to a close as we gather for cocktails on the banks of the Mara River and enjoy dinner in the bush as the sun sets on the horizon.
