The Royal Scotsman

Travel Information

Passports and Visas Non-UK travellers must be in possession of a valid, signed passport that will remain valid beyond the duration of their tour. United States, Canadian and European Union passport holders do not require visas for entry into Britain. Citizens of other countries should check with their travel agent for requirements pertaining to their citizenship, as entry requirements can vary.
We reccommend that you carry your passport with you at all times and memorise its number, date of issue, and place of issue. It is also a good idea to carry a photocopy of the infromation pages of your passport (the pages containing your photograph and passport details, as well as any amendment pages) and to leave a copy at home. follow the security measures included with your travellers' cheques, and also leave an additional record of their numbers at home.

Travel Insurance We strongly recommend that passengers purchase adequate trip cancellation / interruption, medical, and luggage insurance.

Young Children It is generally not advisable to bring young children under 15 years of age on The Royal Scotsman

Stationary Every Night The Royal Scotsman stops every night in a quiet siding or station to ensure you can enjoy a good night's rest in your State Cabin.

Special Diets Special diets can be arranged with our chefs -- just advise us in advance. There is a fixed menu for each meal, but do request an alternative if the posted menu (in the Observation Car Lobby) does not suit you.

Formal and Informal Dinners There are formal and informal dinners, usually on alternate nights, but the Train Manager or a member of the Crew will be able to give you the daily choice. For gentlemen, formal means wearing a tuxedo or kilt, and for ladies appropriately elegant attire. However, a jacket and tie are the norm for gentlemen, except at times of unusually hot weather.

Clothing & Accessories A journey on board The Royal Scotsman is a touring trip of Scotland and England. For daytime excursions and relaxing on board the train, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing. Low-heeled, soft-soled shoes are especially important for your walking comfort during visits to stately homes and gardens. During the evening dress will vary depending on whether it is a formal or informal night (see above).

Seating Meals are served in both Dining Cars, and for your general use there is the seating in the Observation Car. No seats are allocated for dining; we suggest you sample different tables during the tour, so that you can enjoy each carriage.

Motor Coach The Royal Scotsman has its own liveried motorcoach which transports passengers to and from the visits in the charge of our experienced driver and guide

Wheelchair The Royal Scotsman has its own wheelchair, designed and made to transport the passenger as comfortable as possible through the train's corridors.

Collectibles In addition to the shopping opportunites during some of the scheduled sightseeing excursions, the Royal Scotsman is delighted to introduce our new range of merchandising -- "Collectables". This exclusive range of gifts and accessories has been designed and crafted to reflect the style and quality you expect from The Royal Scotsman. The crew will be able to display a selection of the items available which we hop you will find invaluable as a memento of your tour, a gift for a friend or relative at home, or indeed an opportunity to give yourself a special treat! The range includes China, Silk and Tartan Clothing & Accessories, Cashmere & Woollens, Food & Drink, Luggage & Leather Goods, Silver and Teddy Bears. Whether you choose our book of mouthwatering recipes or any one of our delightful Collectables, you can recreate the sheer luxury of The Royal Scotsman in your own home.

National Treasures Pleas note that the purchase of"national Treasures" for export from any country is strictly illegal and that the onus rests entirely on the buyer.

Smoking Smoking is not permitted in guests' cabins, sinse this will set off the fire alarms which ensure your safety, nor in any other part of the train except Dining Car 1 after meals

Hairdryers & Bathrobes Haridryers are provided in each cabin, in a drawer of the dressing table, and bathrobes are available on request.

Luggage & Storage On Board Cabins on board The Royal Scotsman have limited space and will comfortable accommodate only a reasonable amount of luggage.
