A place exists in Alaska where the past lives on, where the cries of "gold in the Yukon" still echo from steep canyon walls and where the sounds of barroom pianos and boomtown crowds ring out in the night. It’s a place where the romance and excitement of yesteryear linger around every street corner and every bend in the trail. That place is beautiful and historic Skagway!

Our day begins with a drive through downtown Skagway to see the highlights along Broadway, as well as some of the lesser-known attractions. We will make our way out of town for a stop at the Gold Rush Cemetery where the infamous Soapy Smith, a crime lord known as the "uncrowned king of Skagway" lies buried. The local hero who shot him, Frank Reid lies nearby. Behind the cemetery is Reid Falls, named of course after Frank Reid and we'll take a short walk through the forest to see its crystal clear water plunging off granite cliffs. From here, we will move on to White Pass Summit, a wonderland of stunted forest, azure lakes and snow-capped peaks. We'll learn more about the gold rush and find out why this route was known as the "Dead Horse Trail" back in 1898. Then it's back down the Summit to our wonderful luncheon venue.

We’ll enjoy delicious fresh, organic specialties at beautiful Jewell Gardens, dining in a lovely tearoom overlooking the spectacular gardens. After lunch we will have some time to explore the gardens at leisure before returning to the pier.

We will return to the pier by approximately 1:00pm.

The Seven Seas Navigator is scheduled to sail at 5:00pm

Length: Four hours.

Suggested Attire: Casual wear that is warm (we suggest dressing in layers) with a rainproof jacket and comfortable shoes. Moderate walking. The walk to the waterfall is uphill and unpaved but not difficult.
